It is important to inspect the exterior of your home for cracks, moisture damage, and other signs that could lead to mold. Cracked concrete exteriors can pose safety concerns and reduce the value of your home. Cracks can result from excessive water evaporating in the concrete, extreme temperature or time. These must be repaired as soon as possible to prevent further damage.

Caulking

Water can seep between your siding and foundation when it comes to exterior caulking. Although small amounts of water might not cause a problem in the immediate, they can lead to problems over time by compromising the foundation and interior materials of your home. How to Replace a Broken Window?

The most common home improvement task is to replace broken windows. Repairing damage to glass within your home is the task. Repair work in this instance should take no more than 30 minutes. You could end up causing more damage to your house if you don't know the best way to replace a damaged pane. This article will give you some helpful tips for replacing broken windows.

First, take the old glasses out of their frames

First, remove all screws that hold the glass in place. Then undo the lock at the top center of the bottom section of the window frame. Next, lift the window upwards so it isn’t attached to sill plates (the metal bars below the floor). Use a plier to loosen any remaining screws. After the panes are taken off, thoroughly clean them.

Second step: Clean your new glass

You can wipe any dirt off the glass surface with a towel or a dry cloth. Use a spray bottle with water and alcohol to clean any debris that has gotten under the glass.

Third step: Reinstall the new glass

Attach the window frames to the panes. Start by pushing down on the lower edge of the outermost pane with the tip of a screwdriver. Gently push your pane back into its opening. Next, move on to the next pane and press it against the frame before attaching it. Continue inserting the panes until the entire window is assembled. You can seal the gap between the panes with a silicone caulk gun.

Fourth Step: Repair the area damaged

To determine if additional repairs are necessary, inspect the area surrounding the hole before installing the glass. Inspect the area around the window for cracks near the corners. If so, add two small pieces wood to each side. These wooden blocks will provide strength for the window, as well as acting as spacers during the expansion or contraction of the weatherproofing.

Fourth step: Sealing the area

After replacing the glass, you can apply silicone caulking along the perimeter edges to the window frame. This will create a strong seal between glass and surrounding wallboard. You can purchase silicone caulking at hardware stores or online. It is important to match the color of the walls with silicone caulking.

Allow the caulking time to dry overnight. You should not disturb the caulking after it has fully hardened. You could crack the caulking if you wait too long.
